No Entry Visa for EU/EFTA nationals except for Croatians.

Residence Certificate required for EU/EFTA nationals intending to stay more than three months. Must register at the Central Register of Foreign Nationals (Registro Central de Extranjeros), at a Foreigners Office (Oficina de Extranjero) or local police station (Policia Nacional).

Obligatory Sole trader (Empresario Individual) registrations including IAE business tax (Impuesto de Actividades Económicas);
start of business declaration (Declaración Censal de Inicio de Actividad); Social Security (Seguridad Social); and VAT.

Non Residents working in Spain for less than 183 days in any financial year are liable only for their Spanish income.

Residents working in Spain for 183 days or more are liable for their income worldwide.

Tax Rates

Income tax: progressive up to 45% on taxable income above EUR 175,000.20.

Surtax: progressive up to 7% on taxable income above EUR 300,000. Applicable for tax years 2012 and 2013.

VAT: 21%.

Obligatory Spanish Social Security contributions: 29.8% on the minimum monthly base of EUR 893 regardless of actual income.

The income retention depends amongst others on the duration of the assignment, contract rate, marital status and taxation and social security agreements between Spain and the foreign nationals’ country.
