Notification at Alien Police Department of the start and place of residence within 10 working days from the day of entering Slovakia, unless done by the provider of the accommodation (e.g. hotel).

Trade Licence Registration with the Trade Licensing Office, comprising also Health insurance and Tax registration and assignment of Tax Identification Number (DIC).

Social Security Registration with the Social Security Agency.

VAT Registration.

Non Residents working in Slovakia for less than 183 days in any financial year are liable only for their Slovak income.

Residents working in the country for 183 days or more are liable for their income worldwide.

Tax Rates

Income tax: 19% up to EUR 35,022.31 and 25% if above.

Income tax payment: provisional tax payments are paid: quarterly between €1,659.70 and €16,596.96; monthly if last known tax liability was over €16,596.96; as a single payment if the last tax liability did not exceed €1,659.70.

VAT: 20% (reduced 10%).

Obligatory Contributions: Social Security + Health Insurance amounting to a total of 47.15% with a yearly ceiling of EUR 4,290.


The income retention depends amongst others on the duration of the assignment, contract rate, marital status and taxation and social security agreements between Slovakia and the foreign nationals' country.
