Mandatory Employment Visa issued by the Ministry of Manpower on application by an Omani employer.
Residence Card: mandatory for foreign workers employed in Oman. Issued by the Directorate General of Civil Status and must be obtained within 30 days from entry.
Residence permit: mandatory for foreign workers employed in Oman. Applied for by the Omani employer after obtaining the Residence Card and the Employment Visa.
No income taxes are currently imposed on foreign nationals employed in Oman.
Employer liabilities: Notice Pay, one month’s salary; Leave Pay, 30 days; Indemnity, 21 days pay per year; and air ticket ministry stamp fee.
Omani nationals: employer’s social security contribution is 10.5% and for employees 6.5%.
Foreign nationals: no social charges. Foreign nationals coming to work in Oman are advised to obtain private medical insurance to cover medical expenses.
The income retention depends amongst others on the duration of the assignment and the contract rate.
